01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Nami pairs bistro-inspired small plates with piping-hot dishes from the teppan, in a relaxed space furnished with counter and table seating. The menu ranges from Western-style appetisers such as assorted starters, ajillo and pâté de campagne to hearty meat and seafood cooked on the hot plate—all well suited to a drink.

From the signature offal stew to a sizzling finish

A good place to start is the restaurant’s recommended Western-style offal stew with garlic toast. Beef offal is slowly simmered with fond de veau, a bouquet garni and red wine; Haccho miso and brown sugar are added at the end to give the sauce a deep, rich flavour. It pairs well with the crisp toast. Another regular favourite is the Sangen pork tonpei-yaki, a generous dish of Hiraboku Sangen pork belly, Japanese yam, spring onion, cheese and tempura crumbs, all bound in soft egg. It also makes a satisfying way to finish a meal.

Wines and shochu to complement the food

There is plenty to choose from at the bar, including a broad selection of distinctive red and white wines by the bottle and a changing wine by the glass. The drinks list also includes draft beer, fruit-forward sours, authentic shochu from around Japan, and after-dinner pours such as marc and grappa. Choose a glass to suit the food or the mood.

The teppan menu has plenty of energy, too, with dishes such as Japanese Black Wagyu short ribs, freshly caught fish poêlé and sobameshi with beef tendon, which is an off-menu item. Seating can fill up in the evening, so booking ahead is recommended.
